West Indies tour to Newzealand, Test 1, Day 2.

Newzealand 609 runs/9 wickets(dec.). West Indies 67 runs/2 wickets(24.0 overs). West Indies Trail by 542 runs with 8 wickets and 3 days remaining.

The First Test match between the West Indians and the Kiwis started yesterday. After a successful tour to Srilanka, the Black caps were looking ahead to make their mark while the West Indies were still hoping to break the shackles and to get a test victory after a long while.
The match started yesterday at University Oval, Dunedin. West Indies having won the toss decided to bowl first as the pitch looked to be a typical one for the seamers but the plan never worked for them. Newzealand stuck right through the match with a massive start. The two openers Hamish Rutherford and Peter Fulton started pretty solidly scoring 62 and 61 runs respectively. But who knew there were three centuries standing right up-front. After the openers departed Ross Taylor stepped in. He looked confident right from the start and put together a marvelous Double Century. The man scored 217 runs(23 x fours) for 319 balls only. The mighty work was also continued by the skipper Brendon McCullum who also scored 113 runs (13x4s , 3x6s). Some tiny partnerships from the tail-enders helped the hosts to lead their team to a grand total of 609 runs/9 wickets and finally they had to declare. Tino Best got 3 wickets for 148 runs.Darren Sammy and Narsingh Deonarine got 2 wickets each while Shane Shillingford got 1 wicket.

The target was really a huge one and probably a tough one for the West Indian dug out. They got the worst of the starts as their opener Kirk Edwards was dismissed for a duck and soon after came Keiron Powell's wicket for just 7 runs. The deck is being steadied by Marlon Samuels and Darren Bravo who currently stand at the crease with their respective totals of 14 and 37 runs. West Indies current stand at a total of 67 runs/2 wickets with 3 days to go. Trent Boult and Tim Southee received 1 wicket apiece.Still the match can go any waay as alot is still to come. So let's wait and watch.
