New Zealand 609 runs/9 wickets(Declare) - 1st Innings
West Indies 213 runs/10 wickets - 1st Innings
West Indies 168 runs/2 wickets (follow on) (49.0 ov) - 2nd Innings
West Indies still trail by 228 runs
Third day of the 1st test between New Zealand and West Indies proved to be a disaster for the visitors as they started with the loss of an early wicket of Marlon Samuels who was dismissed for just 14 runs. The same scheme was followed by the other batsmen including Darren Sammy(27 runs), Narsingh Deonarine(15 runs) & Dinesh Ramdin(12 runs) while the only strong resistance was shown by Keiron Powell who could only get upto 40 runs while Shivnarine Chanderpaul proved to be the highest scorer for the visitors playing a decent innings of 76 runs followed by 10 boundaries. The West Indians finally ended up only at 213 runs falling well short to avoid follow on. Tim Southee proved to be the West Indian destructor as he got rid of 4 batsmen with an economy of 3.25 rpo. New Zealand camp decided to enforce follow on to their visitors having forced to bat again.
This time the West Indian start looked differnet in a sense that Keiron Powell got out to Boult for only 14 runs. After a while Kirk Edwards was also undone by Sodhi for his quite mature innings of 59 runs. The West Indies ended up again with the same couple with which they ended up yesterday. Darren Bravo and Marlon Samuels still stand on the crease again at the end of the day with their respective totals of 72 runs and 17 runs.
Still a whole trunk of batsmen to arrive for the guests with a 2 day game still left. Can they stand up to the task or will they fall in the same manner.............Let's wait and watch...........
